10 EVENT REVIEW
Babylon we reluctantly boarded the bus back to Seven Dials. We headed back to the hub, to enjoy a taste sensation in Smat’s Rum and the ice cream pop-up on Monmouth Street soaking up the buzzy atmosphere and music. A varied crowd from students to industry insiders congregated away from the pouring rain outside to enjoy a more tropical cocktail pairing!
“My advice would be to steer clear of travelling across London and stick to the hub of London Cocktail Week.”
London Cocktail Week Lovodka Bus Tour
It was a dreary autumn evening in a very grey London, but despite the downpour we arrived at The Seven Dials anticipating a night of fun and fancy cocktails in some of London’s best bars.
Ketel One, the pop up hub shop was packed with people. Wristbands were handed out for £10 and maps were provided to show London Cocktail Week’s hotspots. We headed straight off to board the Lovodka bus, first heading to Beach Blanket Babylon in Notting Hill and later taking the cocktail cruise out to Shoreditch. The shots of Lovodka on boarding the novelty bus were presented in chocolate shot glasses. A double bonus for a chocoholic cocktail lover!
Sat on the black satin seats, surrounded by burlesque beauties we set off up Oxford St, chatting to the enthusiastic host about the sweet treats on offer. This may well sound like the best form of transport ever, but the uninspiring music and disinterested dancers left a lot to be desired! After a half hour journey in rush hour traffic we arrived at the stunning Beach Blanket Babylon for our first cocktail of the night. There are few places you could get a cocktail for £4 in London and usually this beautiful bar is certainly not one of them.
The downsides to a bus full of thirsty people pouring into one small (but perfectly formed) bar area? No seats, no space and no choice. However the Lovodka cocktail was a delicious, passion fruit and caramel vodka concoction called ‘Liquid Gold’ which looked perfectly suited to the gilt edged, extravagant surroundings! After just 20 minutes in Beach Blanket
My advice would be to steer clear of travelling across London and stick to the hub of London Cocktail Week. Drink up the eclectic mix of people as well as the mix of ingredients to find your perfect cocktail.
