Chairman quits DETLING Parish Council chair- man Geoff Cosgrove has re- signed due to work commitments which will be taking him to the Philippines. First elected as chairman in
2001, he had been active in many campaigns on behalf of the parish council, including the A249 Action Group and the fight against KIG. A senior engineer, he has
found time for his council du- ties while meeting a busy work schedule involving infrastruc- ture contracts abroad, but will now be working on a project in the Philippines. Cllr Jan Kennard chaired the October meeting at which he was thanked for his hard work. She said: “He will be a great loss to the parish. He has to go where the work is, but once he stops travelling, we hope he will be able to return to the council.” A new chairman will be elected.
TV studio offices MAIDSTONE Studios, off New Cut Road, Vinters Park, has re- ceived planning permission to turn storage areas into office ac- commodation. The consent will enable the building to cater for businesses associated with television pro- duction as it becomes less fo- cused on hosting television shows.
Tesco deliveries increase
TESCO has been given permis- sion to increase the hours it is allowed to make deliveries to its supermarket in Grovewood Drive North, Weavering Street, Grove Green. The company had previously
been restricted to receiving a total of five daily deliveries be- tween 6am and 11pm on Mon- days to Saturdays, and three daily deliveries between 8am- 4pm on Sundays and bank hol- idays. An application to allow one additional hour of deliveries
(between 11pm and midnight) on Mondays to Saturdays, and four further hours (between 4pm and 8pm) on Sundays and bank holidays was accepted by Maidstone Council. This will enable suppliers to make one additional delivery every day. Cllr Ann Spain, of Boxley Parish Council, felt the pro- posal was unfair on neighbours who will experience additional night-time noise. She said: “They now deliver for 18 of the 24 hours. That is a lot, and has a detrimental effect on parish-
ioners. We quite often get com- plaints.” But committee member Cllr
Tony Harwood, who is also a member of the parish council, thought otherwise. “This change is fairly minor and will not impact on the residents,” he said. “When the store first opened
there were very restricted de- livery hours and lorries were left waiting in the loading bay with their engines on for a long time before they could deliver.”
Rotary concert raises cash for air ambulance
A CHARITY concert held by Maid- stone Riverside Rotary Club in its 21st anniversary year has raised £8,000 for Kent Air Ambulance and The Heart of Kent Hospice. Maidstone Riverside has raised
more than £300,000 for local charities since it was founded in 1991. In May, the club organised a
charity concert featuring the Lon- donWelsh Male Voice Choir at All Saints’ Church. Following the event, members
visited the Air Ambulance base at Marden, where they are pictured presenting a cheque to the pilot, doctor and critical care para- medic.
Funds raised from the charity concert, which starred soloist and former Maidstone Girls Grammar
School pupil Imogen Dyer, will be shared by the Air Ambulance and The Heart of Kent Hospice.
