Photo exhibition A photographic exhibition at St Nicholas’s Church,Otham, put the focus on the commu- nity,with pictures of the peo- ple and places who hadmade the parish what it is today. Themes included the buildings and landscape, the hops and farmers, the quar- ries, the orchards, the people, the registers, and the church. The material had been gath- ered over several years by the instigator of the exhibition, Dr Hugh Vaux.


Garage conversion ANapplication has been sub- mitted to convert an existing garage into living accommo- dation at 17 Ravens Drive, Downswood. The scheme, which will be determined by Maidstone Council, includes the erection of a detached home office.


Workshop plan A PROPOSAL has been lodged to convert a workshop building to into guest accom- modation at Old Forge Farm, Old Forge Lane, Stockbury.


Football club’s fair A CRAFT and gift fair took place at Madginford Hall, Bearsted, on Saturday Octo- ber 27, to raise funds for MPE FC’s U13s’ and U12s’ visit to America next year.


Safari market


a big success THE sun shone for Holling- bourne’s fourth safari market. Visitors camefromfar and wide


for the 55 stalls, which included harvest produce,acraft stall, and a photographic stall. Ellie Walker donated all of the


profits from her soft toy stall to charity.


Catering was provided by HollingbourneWI. Other attractions included a


children’s painting competition,a raffle, and a competition for the most stalls visited. Some of the helpers are pictured left.


Remembrance Day parade


DETAILS have been released of Maidstone’s Remembrance Day Service and parade on Sunday, November 11. The military paradewill leave County Hall at 10.20am, march- ing along Week Street to meet up with the civilian parade, which leaves from Earl Street. From there they will continue down the High Street, Lower High Street and across the bridge to the Cenotaph on the Broadway. There they will be joined by


the mayoral party for the serv- ice at 10.50am. After the service the parade will return to the High Street,


where the mayoral party will take the salute on the dais to- wards the front of the town hall, opposite The Muggleton Inn. The following roads are likely


to be closed at various times during the morning: Sandling Road (outside County Hall); Earl Street; Week Street; High Street; Pudding Lane (junction with High Street); Lower High Street; Bridge Gyratory; St Peter’s Street; Broadway; Rocky Hill; London Road (from junc- tion with Buckland Hill to Rocky Hill); and Tonbridge Road (from junction with Broadway to junction off Ter- race Road).


Landway fence idea PAMELA Hughes has applied to replace existing bushes, hedges and tree stumps with a two-metre high boundary fence at 11 The Landway, Bearsted. The application, which will


be determined by Maidstone Council, includes planting new shrubs in front of the hedge line.


Bungalow replaced FRASER Sword has applied to erect a replacement four-bed- room chalet bungalow at Hillview, Old Lidsing Road, Lidsing. His supporting state- ment says it would be of a sim- ilar scale, design and materials as neighbouring dwellings to the north.
