come you to the 2012 Rally of the Tall Pines, Bancroft. We are pleased that the Town of Bancroft is our Host Sponsor again this year. We always enjoy the friendly hospital- ity, and wide range of services that Bancroft has to offer, and very much appreciate the support and enthusiasm the Town provides to the rally.
O 2012 is the 42nd consecutive
running of the Rally of the Tall Pines, and as in previous years we have worked extensively with our partners to bring the competitors a great rally on great roads in a won- derful part of Ontario. Once again we have built on our
strengths with only slight changes to this year’s format. Every year, we hope to return to the Pines tradi- tion of “winter roads and summer ditches”, but only time will tell if that will be case this year. Expect to see great competition on these in- credible roads. Besides providing a wide variety of road conditions, our route also provides teams with seri- ous technical challenges. Competi- tors will experience a compact route and a compact schedule over one long challenging day. Te Rally of the Tall Pines is a
part of three Rally Championships; Te Canadian National Rally Championship, the North Ameri- can Rally Championship and the Ontario Regional Rally Champi-

n behalf of Maple Leaf Rally Club and our sponsors, I wel-
onship. Although some positions in the Canadian Rally Championship have already been settled, there are still a number which will be de- cided here, as the Rally of the Tall Pines is the final round of the 2012 Championship. Antoine L’Estage has already se-
cured the first overall driver’s posi- tion in the Canadian Rally Championship in his Mitsubishi with “Crazy” Leo Urlichich in “Te Subaru Beast” comfortably in sec- ond place. Tird spot is still in dis- pute with only seven points separating Pat Richard, Hardy Schmidtke and Simon Losier. It’s the same story with the co-
drivers. Te overall co-driver has been secured by Nathalie Richard, with Carl Williamson, in second place. Tere are ten points between the next three co-drivers Alan Ock- well, John Hall and Lynne Murphy so the Tall Pines will determine who wins third place overall in the National Championship. Te 2WD class is much closer
and will be decided here at the Rally of the Tall Pines with only four points between the top two drivers, Edward McNelly and Eric Growchowski. Close behind these two are Krystian Ostrowski and Peter Kocandrle with only one point between them. So it will be another interesting battle. Te co-driver’s championship for
this class will also see a good fight, with Ole Holter currently leading
class championship driver and co-driver will also be decided here at
the Tall Pines. Currently, Alexandre Rochon-Oulette is sitting atop the driver’s leader board with 21 points but has Warren Heywood snapping at his heels on 18 points. Similarly co-driver Nicholas Rochon-Ouel- lette currently has the lead with 21 points but Richard Doucet is only six points behind. So with nine points for a class win, it is going to be close. Te Production Sport class is even closer with the top three drivers and co-drivers all on nine points, so another class to be fought over in Bancroft. Te Novice class is also in a tight
race, with only seven points sepa- rating the top three teams. In the Ontario Regional Rally Championship, there is a close fight for overall victory between Ryan Huber and Warren Haywood, both driving Subaru’s with only14 points separating them. A win carries 22 points so you can be sure that both teams will be trying for the win. Te coveted Manufacturers Championship, for the Canadian Championship has already been won by Mitsubishi, but the North American Championship will be decided here with only five points between Mitsubishi and Subaru after 11 rallies across Canada and the USA. Te Rally of the Tall Pines, Ban-
croft is an excellent event for the discerning rally aficionado and for newcomers to the sport. We have two great spectator stages; Iron-
bridge where the cars pass three times during the day and the other, after dark, at our special stage at Golton which is sponsored by Tim Hortons, Bancroft. We have a single Service Area at
Dungannon and we have the great facilities offered by the Town of Bancroft. Te Tall Pines has a well estab-
lished VIP Programme which offers guests comfortable, warm coaches, private tented viewing areas, lunch, a gourmet dinner and some Tall Pines “goodies” while rubbing shoulders with experienced rallyists. We will have our Rally of the
Tall Pines merchandise on sale at Rally HQ at the Dungannon Recreation Centre and at both our Spectator Stages, so please stop by and take home a T-shirt, toque or hoodie, they are all a great value. Te Rally of the Tall Pines, Ban-
croft was the first national stage rally in Canada to offer an award for the highest placed hybrid car to finish the rally. Tis year we will continue to give awards to hybrids and to clean diesels in this class. We contribute to support Bancroft’s tree planting program, so there can be more “tall pines” in the future and we use compostable products where possible and encourage our suppliers, competitors and specta- tors to do the same. We continue to be grateful to the Town of Bancroft, the Townships of Wollaston, Lim- erick, Tudor & Cashel, the Munici- pality of Marmora and Lake and the Ministry of Natural Resources for granting us permission to use their roads. We would also like to thank the
Watters family, the Golton family, the Tait family and L’Amable Pub- lic Storage for allowing us the use of their own property for a portion of the event and we would like to extend a big thank you to all the volunteer workers who make the Rally of the Tall Pines the special event that it has become. I hope you will enjoy our unique and challenging rally.
