are no outstanding planning al- locations of permissions for large scale developments in the village. “The impact of the proposed development on local infra- structure can be accommodated through improvements to exist- ing facilities, via S106 contribu- tions or direct works.” Marden has been earmarked

for 320 new dwellings in Maid- stone Council’s emerging Core Strategy. In the strategic hous- ing land availability assessment (SHLAA) undertaken by Maid- stone Council two years ago, four greenfield areas in Marden parish were earmarked for housing.

According to the applicant,

the land near the school falls within grade 3 “good/moder- ate”agricultural land, while the other three sites were grade 2, which is more sensitive. It said: “As no commercial

farm relies on the site for viabil- ity, the loss of the site to an al- ternative use would have no significant impact on an exist- ing farm holding. “It is intended that the pro-

posed development retains the majority of the existing trees

and provides for additional tree planting.” Cllr Reed was unable to com-

ment on the proposal until more detail had been provided, but felt the 320 homes touted in the draft Core Strategy – the highest number for any village in Maidstone – was an exces- sive target for Marden. She said: “We just wonder

why we have been given so many. “I know we have the train sta-

tion butweare notonamain road – all we have is a B road. Oursewageisshottobits;

don’t know howwe are going to cope with such a high number.” A spokesperson for Redrow Homes (Eastern), said: “We’ve had initial discussions with Maidstone Borough Council but plans to develop this site for housing are in the very early stages. “We’re proposing to host a public consultation event on Saturday, November 10, when we would welcome the views of local people and stakeholders on any potential development. “We will be providing further details to residents about this event, to be held at Marden Me- morial Hall, closer to the time. ”
