Grammar school rated outstanding
PUPILS and staff at Invicta Grammar School are celebrating after being judged outstanding in all categories in their latest Ofsted report. The inspection of the 1,220-
pupil school in Huntsman Lane, Vinters Park, was carried out under the new framework, which involves short notice and more time in the classroom ob- serving teaching. Following their two-day visit
in September, inspectors gave the school top marks overall andineachoffoursections–

Inspectors said the outstand-
ing teaching “inspires, enthuses and motivates students in their thirst for knowledge.” Relation- ships were excellent and teach- ers had very high expectations, using their excellent subject knowledge to help students maximise their achievement. The team commented on the effective curriculum and the ris- ing achievement of the sixth form, which was outstanding. Head of school Julie Derrick
said: “We are delighted to have received such a fantastic report. It is a superb achievement and
one of which we are very proud, particularly as Invicta is the first school in Kent to receive out- standing accreditation under the new Ofsted framework.” She thanked students, staff
and governors for their hard work and commitment and par- ents for their continual support. “This report, alongwith the fact that we have secured £1.8 mil- lion for a new English and per- forming arts building, is like Christmas all at once. “Our students are very lucky,”
she said.
FA backs air ambulance KENT Football Association has once again chosen to support the Kent Air Ambulance for the 2012/2013 season by naming a shield in the charity’s honour. Clubs playing in the IntermediateChallenge Shield
raised£1,000 for the Marden-based charity last year. Chief executive, Paul Dolan, said: “Kent Air Ambu-
