Disqus: “Emotional Cluster! Drivers Dealing With Back-to- School Changes,” Sept. 25 Daily Routes blog by school bus driver Christie Smith I know what you’re going through. We once got a new
dispatcher, and she rewrote all of her routes, which the pre- vious dispatcher had fine-tuned to perfection. Talk about chaos. We have always bid our routes and then the bus of our choice that fits the route except special-ed routes, which were pre-assigned a bus. I can understand the betrayal of your co-workers. Now, we charge for transportation due to budget cuts. Excuse me, but public education is supposed to be free. Over the years I saw them cut out entire neighborhoods
from transportation, and the students had to cross a busy six-lane road. Tere was no logic involved, and it was a major safety issue. Te list goes on. We once had 70 routes and they were reduced to about 60 or so. Tey constantly try to cut routes, not realizing that, eventually, it will be a dispatcher’s job that will be eliminated. Ten the sparks would fly. I could go on, but I understand and sympathize with what
you are going through. Bless you and all of your drivers. — Colt

Disqus: “Study: Students with Special Needs More Prone to Bully, be Bullied,” Latest News, Aug. 30. Vulnerable children are often targeted by bullies. Some-
times it’s a child’s appearance that is perceived as “different.” Sometimes bullies pick on kids because they need a victim, someone who seems emotionally or physically weaker. As a mother, it’s hard for me to imagine that one day my
son will also experience this type of violence. — Shaira Leah Gomez
