Jorge Masihy Director, Software Engineering and Development RIM (Research In Motion, Inc.)


Research In Motion began selling the Blackberry mobile smartphone in 1999. That was the same year Jorge Masihy entered his Master of Science degree program in engineering management and business, and several years after he started work for Motorola as a senior software and engineering manager. The next turn of the new media wheel placed him at Motorola Mobile Devices, where he spent 11 years as a software engineering and development manager, and brought Masihy one step away from his current post. In 2008, Masihy was hired by Research In Motion as a director of software development and engineering for future generations of Blackberries.

Norman Ortiz Founder & CEO iGenApps Inc.


For more than 12 years, this entrepre- neur, who specializes in software devel- opment, has been honing his skills on Internet and mobile technologies. Nor- man Ortiz believes that everyone can, and should, learn to write some code and founded software service iGenApps to show how. iGenApps assists users to design and develop mobile applica- tion from a mobile device and without having to know programming. Ortiz is also the owner and CEO of XPous LLC, a mobile and web application company. Before founding iGenApps, he worked as a technologist in the pharmaceutical industry. During more than six years at GlaxoSmithKline, Ortiz implemented special-purpose data management soft- ware and worked on diverse program- ming projects. Ortiz was International CTIA, Wireless Association, winner of the CTIA 2011 B!G Idea Contest and CTIA 2011 iOS Mobile Platform Challenge. Roberto Aguilar believes in enhancing UX, or user experience. That desire comes into play at SmartReceipt Inc., which uses retail receipts to deliver targeted promotions as well as nutri- tion and health tips to customers. Clients include restaurant chains Sub- way, Silvergreens and El Gallo Giro. Beyond being engaged in everything from design of products to implemen- tation and maintenance, Aguilar also works with colleagues on architecture,


client-side communications and developing point-of-sale apps for clients. Prior to joining SmartReceipt in 2008, he spent five years at the U.S. government’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory creating specialized software. Helpful to others in his field, Aguilar has spoken to fellow techs in his area about AppScale, a Google App Engine, and the research that SmartReceipt has done. Aguilar was a cum laude graduate in computer science with a minor in electronic arts.


Mauricio Perez Director, Product Management Sling Media


Mauricio Perez is a master of time and space for television lovers. At Sling Media, he makes the connections for product integra- tion and development that provides video streaming applications. Sling Media Inc., owned by EchoStar Corp., makes the Sling- box and other devices with placeshift video technology for consumers and television service providers. The company’s products and technology allow customers “to watch and control their living room TV shows at any time, from any location, using internet- connected PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones.” Previously, he was a manager at Ccube.com, Cisco Systems, and Centigram. Perez has been a speaker on the busi- ness and technology of online video at the Streaming Media West conference.
