Crassula capitella.
The succulents pot in my garden was a show stopper this year – and I was just experimenting.

pie when it is not putting out leaves. It is be- ing sold at only $1,500 each. Adenia ballyi, another caudiciform, is a steal at only $550. Both are available from
rare-succulents.com in case you have some spare change in your pockets. There are many, many succulents that are
less rare and just as amazing. Crassula Bud- dha’s Temple is a fantastic plant that looks like a succession of temple roofs rising from the earth until it gets bigger when they branch out and twist and turn into weird

shapes. Crassula capitella has lovely red and gree leaves. Jade plants are members of the Crassula family.
How about the fascinating Aloe polyphyl-
la, commonly known as the spiral aloe. This one is very inexpensive at only $4.95. To find these odd and wonderful plants, look at box stores which often bring in masses of unidentified plants and, of course, at your local garden centres where you know the owners are really engaged in the business of selling interesting plants. They are just as
attracted to anything new and different as we are.
Succulents are adapted to living in dry conditions and so can be a useful plant for the casual gardener or the very busy per- son. Find a sunny window if you want to overwinter them indoors. They need lots of light. They also like very good drainage and can tolerant a fairly arid environment. In winter, when the plants are partially dor- mant, you can get away, in many cases, with watering as little as once a month.
