at Tavistock Parish Church Friday 30th November through to Sunday 9th December
Christmas Tree Festival
CHRISTMAS is rapidly approaching and an event to set the scene will open on Friday 30th November in Tavistock. The Friends of St. Eustachius’ are organising their Christmas Tree Festival in the beautiful Parish Church, which is set right in the centre of our fascinating market town. 60 local businesses, groups and charities will be decorating a tree to reflect the nature of each individual organisation and this will create a stunning effect within this ancient building.
The Festival will run days from Friday 30th November through to Sunday 9th December. The event will be opened at 2.30pm by the Town Mayor and will conclude with a Christingle Service at 4pm on Sunday 9th December, to which all are warmly welcome. Various musical events will take place throughout the Festival to add to the enjoyment of viewing the trees in this historic setting.
The opening hours will generally be between 10.30am. and 4.30pm. each day, with the exception of the opening day, Friday 30th November and Friday 7th December, and the two Sundays. Friday 30th November is also the date for the town’s Dickensian Evening and the Festival will run between the opening ceremony at 2.30pm and 10pm. It will also open until 9pm. on 7th December to coincide with late night shopping in the town. This will give visitors to the Dickensian Evening ample time to enjoy both sparkling events. Anyone attending the Church morning services on the Sundays will also be able to enjoy this spectacle and services take place at 8am and 9.45am. The Festival is being organised by the Friends of St Eustachius’, who carry out a number of fundraising exercises throughout the year in order to contribute to the maintenance of the church. Entry cost to the Festival will be £1 for adults, free for children, and there will be light refreshments available within the church throughout the Festival. On Dickensian Evening, mulled wine and mince pies will be served.
The Friends committee were delighted with the success of previous festivals, where over 6000 people visited each year and are hoping for even greater visitor numbers this year.
