TIM and Tim’s Top Tips by Tim Lambie & Tim Jones

Vodafone has had its SureSignal device around for some time now. We have had one in the office for a while because it gives us a mobile signal in the office where before, there was none. It really is fantastic. These gadgets are not unique to Vodafone; O2 has the Boostbox, Orange has the Signalboost.

If you are frustrated by your mobile not working at home, then look at getting one, because it makes a real difference. It means you can come and go and the phone just works. Here is a money saving tip. Do not bulk buy cartridges for your printer. In fact, my advice would be only buy the cartridge you need when you need it, don’t even bother with a pack of 4. We so often see individuals with 5 or 6 of each colour and then the printer dies. There is no way those cartridges will fit any other printer, so their purchase was a waste of money if the printer has to be replaced because of a mechanical failure. Buying a new computer and worried about not having Office? Well, unless it is a Dell computer, the likelihood

is that there is a package from Microsoft pre-loaded on the new machine that will allow you to have Word and Excel for FREE. That means you no longer have to worry about finding the disk and the code for the version of Office you are sure was kicking about somewhere. When you need Powerpoint or any of the other programs that come “extra” then you will need to purchase a package which we can help you with, but for most everything else, you will be fine with the Starter version. We all love wireless printers because they are so easy to

use, but they can be a bit of a pain when you change Broadband Providers. It does depend on how it is done of course, but very often if you use the equipment (router) provided by the new ISP, it will be entirely different in the way it sets up the ‘internal’ network. So different in fact,

that it will mean your printer will no longer work. There is often a network utility that comes with the printer software that may repair the printer, or you may have to re- run the CD in its entirety to get it fixed. Either way, something needs to be done.
