Exercise in pregnancy K
eeping fit whilst pregnant is a really good thing to do as it will both help towards having an easier birth and to regain your pre – pregnancy shape back afterwards too!
In the earlier stages of pregnancy, you can carry on with most sports (but check with your doctor first). However, as your pregnancy progresses, you may find gentler forms of exercise more enjoyable, such as swimming, yoga and pilates. Many gyms and sports centres run specific courses for pregnant mums – to be and it’s also a great way to make new friends!
It’s also a very good idea to start doing regular pelvic floor exercises which will strengthen the muscles of your vaginal walls to enable you to
push your baby out more effectively. Strong pelvic muscles will also help prevent the embarrassment of leaking pee after exertion and guard against stress incontinence longer term. They also will help to give you back a great sex life (eventually!) after childbirth.
