ookstart is a national programme that encourages all parents and carers to share and enjoy books with children from as early an age as possible. Every child is entitled to two free Bookstart packs containing books and helpful guidance for parents and carers.

Bookstart Baby pack –


given out by your health visitor at the 6-9 month health contact or at your library.


Bookstart Treasure pack – given to your 3 year old child by their pre-school, nursery or library. For visually or hearing impaired children Bookshine and Booktouch packs are also available. For more information about the Bookstart packs visit: www.bookstart.org.uk


hildren’s Centres primarily offer services for families with Children under 5 years old. There are currently 39 Children’s Centres in Gloucestershire.

Centres offer a range of services and activities:-


• Access to early learning and childcare


• Access to employment support and adult learning


• Child and family health services eg midwife and health visitor


• Information and activities for families


• Links to specialist services where children and families would benefit from additional support


• Stay and play groups • Antenatal sessions • Young parents groups

At all centres there are also people on hand to provide support that may include health professionals, family support workers and early years staff. You will also find a


range of information about local services for children and families.
