Town Talk

A SCHOOL’S security system proved it worked efficiently when an intruder scaled a 2.6 metre high spiked fence to get into the grounds. The young man, believed to be a former pupil, was seen speaking to a small group of students during a lunch break at Holmesdale Tech- nology College, Snodland. Vice-principal Ben Price was first

on the scene and 13 members of staff, alerted by radio, were on the field in minutes, as were officers from the police office at the adjoin- ing Wolfe Centre. The intruder was escorted from

the school premises within minutes. School principal, Julia Campbell,

said: “My staff dealt with this incident in an extremely calm and profes- sional manner. Holmesdale has a zero tolerance policy towards any breach of security. “It is gratifying to know that the safeguarding procedures we have in place run like clockwork when there is an actual incident. Our students’ safety is paramount to us and it was not compromised at any point. “We have, of course, also fully fol-

lowed this through working with the police.”

Intruder sparks security alert at school Stranger danger warning to pupils

CHILDREN at a primary school have beenwarned not to talk to strangers or accept lifts in cars after a man and woman in a car were overheard offering a lift to two children. The black car was seen parked outside Christ Church, Malling Road, Snodland, which is near the entrance to St Katherine’s Primary School. Head teacher, Sharon Alexander, wrote to parents telling

them about the incident, which was reported to the police. She said she did not wish to cause alarm and added: “Will you please speak to your children about the need to be vig- ilant and to be aware of ‘stranger/danger’. “We obviously have been telling children not to talk to strangers or accept lifts but could this message be rein- forced at home please.”

Fish bar is back in business

THERE was a long queue waiting for the re-opening of a fish and chip shop, closed after a car accidentally reversed into the front. MP Tracey Crouch cut

the ribbon to let in the customers at Andrew’s Fish Bar in Snodland High Street. “I am delighted to be re-opening Andrew’s Fish Bar today,” she said. “It is always fantastic to support a local family- run business and I wish the ladies all the best.” The business is run by Stella Nicolettos with her daughters, Ka-

Organ finds new home in France

A LITTLE piece of Snodland can now be found tucked away in a tiny French village. The organ from the former United Church in the High Street was carefully taken apart over a period of several days and was rebuilt in a church in Chaourse, near Montcornet. Andy Joyce, a teacher from Leeds, Yorkshire, saw the organ was for sale on the in- ternet and knew that one of the churches in Chaourse had been needing an organ for a long time.

“It has gone to a good home,” he said. “It is a beau- tiful church.” He is pictured with Sylvain Dupont (left), the organist, and Daniel Lemaire (right).  As reported in the last

Town Talk, the church, built in 1888, has been bought by Berry Estates Ltd. A planning application has

been submitted to Tonbridge & Malling Council to convert the church into four two-bed- room houses and four single bedroom flats within the building.

terina and Chrystalla. Katerina said: “We decided to use the closed period to modernise the shop. It has new machinery and has been given a complete makeover. We are excited and glad to be back in business with a fresh new look for our customers.”
