BUILDING A BETTER IC BUS CLEAN ENGINE TECHNOLOGY FOR THE NEXT GENERATION


To Our Customers:


As the #1 manufacturer of school buses for the past ten years, we want to assure you the recent announcement from Navistar regarding engine emissions school compliance is only positive news for our customers and the people who depend on us every day.


Here’s what’s going on: Beginning in early 2013, Navistar will begin a shift to its next generation clean engine solution – In-Cylinder Technology Plus (ICT+) for our big bore engines, which combines Navistar’s advanced in-cylinder engine technology, with proven liquid urea-based aftertreatment. This new clean-engine strategy will allow us to meet 2010 EPA emissions regulations, as well as position our vehicles to meet greenhouse gas rules in advance of 2014 and 2017 requirements.


This plan provides a clear path forward for Navistar and IC Bus to meet emissions and future GHG requirements as well as creating some of the world’s cleanest, most fuel-effi cient diesel engines. The short term focus is on our big bore engines, but longer term we will be looking at the technology transition plan for ICT+ for our medium range engines as well. More importantly, it has no immediate implications for our currently compliant MaxxForce® 7 and DT engines. This means business as usual for you. The buses you buy today are legal in all 50 states and there will be no interruption in our ability to manufacture and sell buses during the eventual transition to ICT+.
