Dear Readers, A

stop and smell the flowers. I know I get going at breakneck speed trying to “keep up” whatever that means since I feel like I am always chasing something. ShowBiz is becoming a worldwide publication with requests for it to be at some of the world’s major shows. The interesting thing is that it is being requested by the shows in the east and in Europe!! Of course the cost of shipping to some of those far off places is always a concern but somehow we have managed. That said…I want to restate that ShowBiz is about the western side of

this country and the people, horses, businesses and shows that make up our sport out here. What we do here in the west is unique and interest- ing and I think it is worth talking about. It is the privilege of ShowBiz to be that vehicle. The summer is starting to take riders all over the world; some are off to Canada, some to Europe and some actually going to New Zealand and parts unknown. We have become a mobile group and the flying of horses hither and yon has become the norm. BUT, take a few moments and notice what is happening

here at home!! Rich Fellers has proven that World Champion horses can be started out here, trained out here, shown out here and still reach the very top of our sport. His approach to the training and showing of Flexible and his other horses is a text book statement that riders and horses do not “HAVE” to always go east or to Europe to be among the best in the world. While it is fun to travel to those far off places if the funds are available, the old belief that the west is not good enough in a quest to be the best has changed, Rich has proven that that is not an accurate statement!! Hats off to Rich and certainly to his owners Harry and Mollie Chapman for their achievements accomplished 95% from here in the west!!!!! A special thank you to the managers for stepping up

would be tragic! So let’s get on down the road with our summer, but always remember where home is…there is you heart!!

they can be. DOES NOT mean these shows get to be sub-standard, but sometimes it’s nice to get support and a leg up as the managers with these smaller shows move to change things. It is only my personal opinion that to lose ANY of them

flourish and thrive, I have a personal passion for the shows that formed our roots…and are being affected by the change in our sport to multi ring shows with big money. It is imperative we save the long time shows, some are OK but some are not. We must not lose Menlo, Flintridge, Pebble Beach, Foxfield and so many of the ones that got us on the map to start with. I know it’s up to the managers but more than that it is up to the exhibitors to be heard and involved if

their game. Shows are beginning to take on special looks now and some are becoming true “events” that we are all enjoying. However, it is my personal passion to encourage and support what can be considered our Heritage Shows. While I would love to see all shows
