away and his boat was sold to Chris Smith, who the last several years, had been racing the Repco 30 LINDA CAROL. Just before the races were started MISTY [Crowley Beal 33, 650 hp Scania] ran down the course as a moment of silence was held in remembrance of David Taylor.

The first races of the day are for Boothbay Region lobster boats. Just HOWARD was in the Gasoline Class. In Class B, Diesel Power – up to 499 hp was won by GOVERNOR [Calvin Beal 34, 375-hp John Deere], owned by Marshall Farnham. In Class C, Diesel Power – 500 hp and over MISTY took first place.

In the three Work Boat Class races there was only one boat, RED’S REVENGE, Jake Hodgdon, in Work Boat Class A for skiffs 16- feet and under with outboards up to 30 hp. In Class B, 30 to 90 hp, it was Marshall Spear’s J-BIRD [16-footer, O/B, 50-hp] crossing a couple of boat lengths ahead of the second place finisher. There was a little chop running and as the competitors of Class C came up the course they were crashing through waves. First over was SUPA GUPP [Beal 23, 225 hp Honda], William DeBery, followed by CASCO MISS [Eastern 22, 130-hp Honda], Dave Johnston.

There was only one entrant in Gasoline Class A, CRY BABY [D&L Boat Works 25’, 292 cid Chevrolet], two in C, BLACK DIA- MOND [Holland 32, 454 cid Chevrolet], Randy Durkee and HOWARD, Matt Carter, and no one was entered in B, D and E. All three came down together and it was no surprise to see CRY BABY leading the fleet with BLACK

DIAMOND second and first in her class. Six boats came to the line for the Wooden Boat Race and it was a real battle between Chris Page’s ABIGAIL & CARTER [John’s Bay Boat, 1,000-hp Caterpillar] and Bill Lowe’s EMILY GRACE [Bill Lowe, Wood, 300-hp GM]. There was only a few feet sepa- rating their bows at the finish with the win going to ABIGAIL & CARTER. In third, was Don Drisko’s MERGANSER [Calvin Beal, Jr., 1977, 230-hp Yanmar], which has been sorely missed the last several years.

There was some great racing in the Die- sel Classes. The first battle we wanted to see was EASY MONEY and Steve Johnson’s LYNN MARIE [Jingle Johnson 28, 220-hp Diesel], which was won easily by EASY MONEY. Another boat we had not seen often David Wiberg’s SANDRA DEE [Crowley 28, 315-hp Cummins] which won Class C. David’s son Nick repowered MISS KATIE [Holland 30] with a 355-hp Cummins, but did not have enough to best Sidney Eaton’s KIMBERLEY BELLE [AJ-28, 370-hp Volvo]. The next real close race again involved EMILY GRACE up against SEACOCK in Die- sel Class G. There was again only a few feet between the stems and this time EMILY GRACE took the win. There always seems to be a great battle in Diesel Class I between Gary Genthner’s LISA MARIE [Libby 34, 690-hp Iveco], MISTY, Chip Johnson’s THREE STARS [Mitchell Cove 35, 650-hp Mack] and Scott Wood’s WILD ONE [Crowley/Beal 33, 892-GM]. The four were still close half way down the course, but in the end WILD ONE was first followed closely by LISA MARIE and then MISTY. Another boat we usually only see at Harpswell and Port-
