Anything but “the lazy, hazy days of summer”!
Tropical storm Debby ushered the first day of summer in on June 21st. Just when we finished our spring projects and are ready to sit back, relax and enjoy a job well done, Mother Nature swoops in to remind us whose boss.
Summer of 2012 will not be easily forgotten. There are raging fires in the west, tropical storms/hurricanes in the southeast, political shenanigans in Washington, a presidential campaign heating up, with Florida as always, a swing state and the finale, the Republican National Convention in the hottest, most humid time in Tampa Bay. With all this bubbling, it’s easy to get so fed up and frustrated that we want to hide our heads in the sands. DON’T!
Don’t give up your entrepreneurial passion and your belief in free enterprise. Our ancestor’s fled a country that ruled rather than governed. They were brave, strong and self-sufficient. Would they be proud of what has become of their dreams and vision? I don’t think so.
If you are reading this commentary, you are a business leader. And as a leader you must do your own research instead of being influenced by mass media. As a business leader you must guard our
free enterprise system as if it were your baby. Entrepreneurs and small business built America and we are the engine and the only hope for a healed economy.
Keep in mind that the politicians you vote into office have more vacation time, better health and retirement benefits than most of the small business owners. Most of them have never had to make payroll, or renew the health insurance policies for their employees. Most of them are delinquent in filing their own taxes and yet they vote for business owners/job creators to pay more taxes.
There are politicians who are truly leaders and have great expectations for a free and healthy United States. And … there are politician who are great oracles, speech givers, debaters and spin artists who are in it for the ‘power’ and recognition with little thought behind the words they read from a teleprompter or a speech prepared by someone else.
As we approach July 4th – Independence Day – remember why we celebrate it. Remember that it was our ancestors quest for independence from an over bearing government that brought them to the shores of America. It was their independence that built this great country. And sadly, this great country is on a fast track to mediocre.
Yes, it’s going to be a long hot, humid and contentious summer. Don’t get fed up and give up. Your vote is very important!
Choose wisely!
