When you're not painting, where would we most likely find you? At the library checking out 40 pounds of art books, taking a break in the dappled sunlight with my hands in the earth, in the practice of yoga or creating some elaborate feast in the kitchen to share with friends drinking around the porch. At the moment, Life is good.

Are family members and friends always trying to hit you up for free art? No. Truth is almost everyone in my immediate family already has a cherished piece hanging in their home. And alas, quite a few of my friends who have posed as a muse seem to shy away from having a larger than life image of themselves in their home. Go figure. And those that crave one have actually commissioned a piece.

Do you think the Internet is crucial to the success of artists today?

Crucial? No. But who can resist.

Would you say your artistic style found you, or you found it? It just is.

Never looked for it and I’m sure as hell it didn’t come looking for me. I suppose you breath it in or perhaps absorb it through your skin, after all that is the bodies largest organ of ingestion.

What medium do you work in, and what attracts you to it? I paint in acrylics. Always have. Can’t say I always will but I have no plans to shift. I like the fact that it dries quickly, keeps me on my toes and moving forward. I tend to stroke and work in many layers. So although I lust for the idea of oils I think I would completely swim in oil and loose time in the drying process, which may lead me to dawdle for days. And acrylic is somewhat ‘greener’ and cleaner’. I’m not the neatest, most antiseptic painter so it’s better for me as well as mine.

Do you have any pieces that you would never consider selling? Why? For a few years my first nude, which is a self portrait, was considered untouchable as my husband claimed it early as his own. I personally think the last self portrait, Nude 9, has eclipsed Nude 1 as the household favorite so perhaps everything is now up for grabs.

How would you describe the ambiance of your studio space? I moved out of a magnificent studio space last year and am painting at home. It took some ‘letting go’ but I couldn’t be happier. I feel the space has transformed from being a studio in the house to ‘we are living in the studio’. Which I love.

There is a famous image of Brancusi standing in his studio surrounded by immense carved sculptures and in some romantic way that has become my living room. Easel on one side and on the other the fireplace and all the rustic wood sculptures and heavy wood furniture of my husbands hand. Well I guess you can now guess who is carving the Miraculous Conception frames.
