Arrival at UTC


Students will not be admitted to the UTC site before 8.00am. All students must be in their first lesson at 8.30am.


Breakfast club


Any student can come to our breakfast club, which takes place every day, from 8.00-8.30am. A number of activities will be provided, including some support with independent study when available.


Any food provided at the breakfast club will be charged separately. As costs may change, these will be confirmed each academic year.


Leaving UTC


Students should remember that they are representatives of Hackney UTC and that the code of conduct applies to them whether inside or outside the UTC. When students leave UTC they should depart immediately from the UTC site and not congregate outside or around the UTC.

Parents are welcome to collect their children from the main UTC entrance on Kingsland Road if they would like to.


Absence


Please remember that lessons should not be missed unless it is completely unavoidable. If a student is unable to attend the UTC due to illness or other circumstances, parents should contact the UTC office before 8.20am. If the UTC has not heard from you by 8.20am, we will contact you directly.


On a student’s return to the UTC following an absence, you should write a short note which states the reason for the absence. If your child is absent due to sickness for longer than three days a doctor’s certificate is required.


Any student seen around the UTC premises while registered absent will automatically have their absence marked as unauthorised, regardless of any notes sent by parents. The UTC will report any unauthorised


Holidays


Parents / carers should not take their children out of lessons for holidays or any other planned event during term time, as it seriously impacts on a student’s education. Term dates are available on our website. Any unauthorised holiday absence carries a penalty fine at the discretion of the Government’s Department for Education and children are at risk of losing their place at the UTC.


Lateness If a student has not come through the UTC gate by 8.25am, they will be marked as late. Any lateness may result in students missing their free time / activity time at lunchtime. Regular lateness will be reported to the Educational Welfare Service.
