Keeping in touch with parents We believe that strong links between home and the UTC are vital, as by working together our students’ education will be more successful. Our UTC will operate an ‘open door’ policy for all parents. If you have concerns about the UTC or your child you can always get in touch with us by calling the UTC office.

So that we can always get in touch with you, it is very important that all student details are kept up-to-date, especially parents’ contact numbers.

It is not always possible to interrupt the normal running of the UTC day to meet parents if they arrive unannounced, so if you wish to speak to someone at the UTC please email or phone us to arrange an appointment.

The UTC will invite all parents / carers to attend informal meetings such as coffee mornings and these will form the basis of the Parent Council. The Council will operate to provide support to the parent community, to represent the voice

of parents in the running of the UTC, and to support the UTC in providing events and trips for students. Details will be published in the UTC newsletter and on the website. Parents will also be invited to celebratory events and musical and dramatic performances and other parent learning events.

Hackney UTC website Please visit our website at www.hackneyutc.co.uk for up- to-date information and details of upcoming UTC events.

Concerns / complaints If parents have any concerns about their child, they should contact the UTC. In the first instance parents should meet with either the appropriate subject teacher, or for more general matters, the child’s form teacher. If parents feel that the situation is serious or urgent, they should arrange to see a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

The UTC will work hard to meet the needs and answer concerns of parents. If however, once you have

spoken to the principal, you still feel the issue is not resolved, you can complain in writing to the Governing Body. If you still feel that the matter has not been resolved satisfactorily, the Governing Body will establish a panel to hear the complaint. You are entitled to attend the hearing, and to bring someone with you, if you wish. A copy of our complaints procedure is on the UTC website and can also be obtained from the UTC office.

If we have any concerns about your child, we will contact you at the earliest opportunity to arrange a convenient time to discuss the situation with you.

We would also be very grateful if you could keep us informed of any changes in circumstances or worries that your child might have at home, such as an ill grandparent, so that we can support them whilst they are at UTC.

Details regarding the complaints procedure and the complaints register can be obtained in the UTC office.
