• One of region‘s best-known practitioners in commercial property law has joined an expanding solicitors‘ firm near Portsmouth. Michael Dalton acts as a consultant for commercial law specialist Graeme Quar & Co. The firm, with a head office in Fareham and another in Petersfield, where Dalton will be working, saw turnover rise by more than one third in the past year. Dalton, a senior commercial property and business solicitor, operated his own firm for more than 25 years in South Hampshire. Since closing it, he has been providing legal advice to a select group of London- based clients, dealing with high- value property transactions.


• Blake Lapthorn has appointed three new partners. Sheilah Mackie (right) has been promoted, having joined in 2006. She specialises in commercial and non-contentious IP/IT matters. She became head of the franchising team in 2011 with responsibility for building the firm‘s offering in this area. Mike Wilson (left), formerly partner and head of office for Clarke Willmott in Southampton, has joined the employment group. Specialising in all aspects of employment law, he acts for employers and senior executives. Jock Mackenzie, a clinical negligence specialist, has joined the clinical negligence team from Kingsley Napley where he was a partner. A doctor of medicine, he practised full-time for five years before re-qualifying as a solicitor in 1998.


• Lincoln Clarke has been appointed chief executive at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard from September. He joins the Trust – which oversees the visitor welcome, marketing, PR, events and advanced sales on behalf of the main attractions within the Historic Dockyard – from The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Stratford- upon-Avon. His appointment coincides with the publication of an ambitious programme of major development for the Historic Dockyard, home to HMS Victory, the National Museum of the Royal Navy, HMS Warrior 1860, the Mary Rose, Action Stations and Harbour Tours. Clarke will assume responsibility for delivering a five-year strategy for growth at the naval heritage attraction, which currently attracts almost 500,000 visitors a year.


• Eastleigh-based insurance business Graham High Group has appointed Ruth Delacour to the position of property claims‘ director. She has been with the company since 2004 and undertaken a number of roles with the company. The promotion will enable Delacour to continue the work she has undertaken in creating a highly-successful property claims handling division.


• Wendy Hall, professor of computer science at the University of Southampton, has been appointed to the board of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), as one of two new non-executive members. Dstl, the largest scientific organisation within government, has around 3,500 scientists, technologists and engineers at its three main sites: Porton Down, Portsdown West and Fort Halstead. Hall has held many leadership roles besides her academic research in computer science, in the development of the world wide web and, more recently, in establishing and developing the new discipline of web science.

• Glenn Gosden of Hampshire construction services group Raymond Brown has scooped a prestigious industry award from an international accountancy body. The group management accountant has won the Association of Accounting Technicians‘ (AAT) top prize for Continuing Professional Development. Gosden joined Raymond Brown nine years ago as an assistant accountant having previously worked as a locksmith. Thanks to ongoing on-the-job training, he has completed his Chartered Institute of Management Accountants exams and aims to receive full certification in the next few months.


• Julia Whitter has joined Glanvilles‘ property services team at its Newport, Isle of Wight, office. Bringing many years‘ experience and an excellent reputation in the property services market, she will help continue to develop the team on the Isle of Wight. Glanvilles also has offices at Fareham and Havant.


• Law firm Lester Aldridge (LA) has promoted Ann Corke, from the wills and estates team, from associate to partner, based at its Bournemouth office. She joined LA in 2001 and specialises in handling complex probate cases, wills, inheritance tax planning, advising the elderly and in the preparation of lasting powers of attorney.
