Grant Thornton‘s Solent 250 Sector Watch

Solent 250 list could be eligible for thousands of pounds worth of support

More than 100 companies within The Business Magazine‘s Solent 250 could be eligible for thousands of pounds worth of business support that could help them grow, according to Grant Thornton in Southampton.

GrowthAccelerator, an innovative £200 million service to help up to 26,000 of England‘s brightest businesses achieve their growth potential, was launched earlier this year by business secretary Vince Cable.

The service is delivered by a new and unique partnership between four of the UK‘s top experts in business growth: Grant Thornton, Pera, Winning Pitch and Oxford Innovation, and the government‘s department for business, innovation and skills.

The team is comprised of over 800 growth coaches and 120 growth managers – an unrivalled network of business inspiration and commercial innovation that can call on experience in every sector.

This specialist team is working with ambitious, fast-growing businesses to discover the real issues that are holding them back, define the right growth plan and open doors to world-class business experts and networks.

Whether businesses want to boost sales, attract investment, commercialise innovation or develop leaders, GrowthAccelerator experts can help provide the right tools and expertise to drive rapid, sustained growth.

The service is designed for independent business based in England with fewer than 250 employees and under £40m turnover. Just as importantly, businesses should have the potential for rapid, sustained growth and have the ambition to double or better within three years, whether that‘s in terms of people, output or turnover.

The criteria is not limited to specific sectors, is open to small, feisty start-ups and well- established businesses and the advice and

support covers a broad range of issues such as securing finance, commercialising innovation or developing leadership and management capability.

Around 65% of companies listed within the Solent 250 fit these criteria GrowthAccelerator and Grant Thornton is urging those eligible to take advantage and seize the opportunity to grow.

Norman Armstrong, partner at Grant Thornton‘s Southampton office, said: “There are some fantastic examples within the Solent 250 of companies that could benefit hugely from the help GrowthAccelerator is able to give. They are strong and ready to grow but just need the right support and guidance to make their plans a reality.

“Businesses within the Solent region are particularly well-placed to ‘grow global‘ by moving onto the international platform and what‘s clear is that companies geared towards global demands and exporting goods and services to international markets are enjoying success. GrowthAccelerator will give companies that are ready to do this the tools and advice they need.

“We are excited that GrowthAccelerator recognises the need for ambitious business leaders to collaborate and access growth in new ways. The service will rapidly create a community of support that will help make the UK the best place to grow a business.

“I sincerely hope that businesses within the Solent 250 who are eligible seize this opportunity with both hands and use the advice and coaching to grow their business and make the Solent region proud.“

Touch, a healthcare training and emergency services company based in the East Midlands. Its employee numbers have rocketed from six at launch to 90 presently and its turnover has skyrocketed from £75,000 to £2m.

When launching GrowthAccelerator secretary of state for business, Vince Cable, said: “GrowthAccelerator is an exciting new service that is at the heart of the government‘s commitment to help businesses deliver growth by increasing their chance of gaining access to finance and spurring innovation. The £200m service will deliver high-quality coaching to a range of businesses that will help them grow and give the economy a real boost.
