MARYLAND EQUESTRIAN PUBLIC ACCESS TRAILS 

Looking for new places to trail ride?....Maryland has a lot to offer by Ron MacNab

Mountains, rolling hills and costal trails are abundant and nearby. T ere are over 100 public trails in Maryland, many known only to local riders. T e Maryland Horse Industry Board with help from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), T e Equiery, Maryland Horse Council and Trail Riders of Today (TROT) are working to promote Maryland equestrian trails and tourism through print and web media. Be on the lookout for new brochures and check out their websites for links to trail and overnight stay information.

Visit the trail location’s website for details (see equiery.com “archives” for links) before visiting the trail. Some areas only permit riding during certain seasons. In some cases you may fi nd that horseback riding is not a listed activity on the website. In those instances call the location to inquire. T is list was compiled with help from DNR, web searches and calling county departments of

parks and recreation. Locations were confi rmed by phone or email. Many thanks to Steve Carr, Trail Planner for DNR for his assistance in this project. If you believe there is an error, omission or correction needed, please email me at Rmacnab@
