Work starts on renovation of Cardiff leisure centre


Work is now underway on a £400,000 revamp of Cardiff ’s Fairwater Leisure Centre – part of the local authority’s wider strategy to improve the city’s provision. Due for completion in mid-September,


the renovation will lead to the creation of a new gym containing approximately 30 sta- tions supplied by Life Fitness. A coffee and juice bar, a dance studio

Virgin to overhaul Esporta clubs


Health club operator Virgin Active is to invest £25m in improving and refitting the 53 former Esporta venues it acquired in July 2011. Virgin Active chief execu-


tive officer Matthew Bucknall said: “In the coming year, we will be completing the inte- gration of the Esporta sites, and making significant capi- tal investment in the acquired clubs to improve all areas of the member experience. “Overall, we see exciting

New fitness facilities for Bolton leisure centre


A new health and fitness space is among the facilities to be unveiled at Bolton’s Westhoughton Community Leisure Centre, following a £650,000 refurbishment. Te fitness area has been doubled in size


and now offers more than 60 pieces of Life Fitness cardiovascular and resistance equip- ment, as well as free weights. New changing rooms, a fully-equipped

‘One-off’ cash boost for Portland leisure centre


Weymouth and Portland Borough Council has agreed a “one-off” £82,000 cash injec- tion for Osprey Leisure Centre in Dorset. The funding is being made available


towards improvement plans over the next five years and will help plug a deficit in the facility’s capital plans budget. Osprey Leisure Centre, which has been

Green light for Fitness First CVA proposal


Fitness First is to restructure existing lease agreements on a number of its UK clubs aſter creditors approved the group’s Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA). Richard Fleming, UK head


of restructuring at KPMG, is a supervisor of the CVA and said the proposal had received the backing of the required number of creditors. In addition to addressing


Fitness First’s operational issues relating to its property portfolio, the CVA allows for a wider restructuring and injection of fresh capital to take place. Fitness First announced earlier this month
