Laconia Muskrat’s Baseball Season Now In Full Swing

mer could not have been more exhilarating for the Mystic Schooners, com- ing back from a two-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth, walking off with a win on a Ryan Lindemuth two-RBI single. After going 1-for-8 with
the bases loaded last night, the Muskrats over- came their shortcomings Friday night in a do or die situation trailing 3-2, plating three runs with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth for their first lead. But Mystic would not go another game with- out their first win. In the second frame,
Mystic put together one of their best innings of the young season. Two singles around a one-out walk loaded the bases for the Schooners. Jake Romanski (San Diego St) rolled into a potential double play ball, but Nick Camastro (Manhattan) booted it. Mystic added a sac fly on a drive to deep left-center, with Marcus Davis (Walters St) mak- ing a tremendous diving catch.

out a hit, on a passed ball and a wild pitch in the third. Muskrats starter Mark Leiter, Jr. battled control issues in his five innings of work, but did well to keep Laconia in the game. He scattered three hits, two walks, a hit bat- ter, and the run-scoring wild pitch, while striking out five. In the eighth, Laconia
nearly pulled even with the Schooners, settling for their second run. Flaherty and Stringer led off with walks, ending the relief outing of Eric Stone (Bos- ton College). New Musk- rat Connor Castellano (Vanderbilt) advanced both runners with a sac- rifice bunt, and Camastro

atoned for his early error with an RBI groundout. But a nice catch from Schooners first baseman Scott Kelleher (Lafayette) on a John Polonius (West Virginia) blooper ended the inning with Stringer stuck on third. Laconia got on the board
in the fifth. Tyler Jackson (Charleston) recorded his first hit of the summer on a one-out double. A single by Regan Flaherty (Semi- nole CC) moved Jack- son to third, and Corey Stringer (Fort Scott CC) brought him home with his first RBI. Danny Collins spoiled
another scoring chance in the seventh, after his leadoff double. Ethan Bennett’s (Tennessee) sacrifice bunt moved Col- lins to third, but he was picked off by Romanski from behind the plate. The Muskrats faced their
new Eastern Division foe, in the first of eight sched- uled meetings. With the departure of two Eastern teams in the offseason, Mystic moved over from the West to balance out the divisions. Laconia split the inter-division series with Mystic 1-1 in 2011. In 2010, Mystic played in Bristol, CT, as Bristol Col- legiate. Laconia wi l l look to
bounce back, in more ways than one, as they host Newport Saturday at 6:30 pm. Newport slammed Laconia 16-3 on Monday.
