Happehatchee Center Reopens in July

I

n July, Happehatchee Center will reopen to the public. The center is presently closed to allow the board of directors to

explore ways of maintaining the natural vibrancy of the five- acre, sacred sliver of paradise. “When we reopen in July with summer hours, we will resume some classes and provide additional environmental and youth opportunities,” advises board President Genelle Grant, EdD.

During June, an advisory committee of education, environmental, financial, legal and spiritual experts is col- laborating on the production of sound business and facility “greening” plans intended to preserve the land, serve the community and nurture the spirit. “Our long-term vision is to create a sustainable educational and environmental conference center, with financial support and ecologically sound practices that will ensure Happehatchee’s healthy existence and availability for the next 100 years,” says Grant. “We are seeking to understand the balance between public access and land preservation, so as to avoid the ‘love it to death’ syndrome, where the fragile environment is eventually trampled and its living power is extinguished.” In June, Volunteer Tuesdays will continue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for individuals that want to help clean and repair the facilities. Bring gloves, sneakers, water, a vegetarian lunch potluck offering and your own eating utensils (carry in, carry out, no-trash policy).

Location: 8791 Corkscrew Rd., Estero. For more information, call 239-992-5455 or visit Happehatchee.org.
