What are you doing with your life now? I am the founder of livehealthysimply. com – a food and health website. I review restaurants and products, share vegan and sugar-free recipes, interview prominent people in the industry, and other bits and pieces around food and health.
Do you have other plans for your future life? I am excited to build a family; and I want to turn Live Healthy Simply into a community- focused site that drives people to make better food choices and lead healthier lives. Hopefully I can make a living from it, but that’s not the main goal.
How are you going to achieve that? I am constantly on the lookout for new ways to relay my message in an interesting and informative way. In terms of progression, I set out clear monthly and yearly goals, of where I want the site to be in terms of traffic and content.
What do you think about goal setting? This is the first year I have actually written down goals and I have found it to have an immense effect on my productivity and drive. When you actually write goals down, you make yourself accountable instead of just thinking about them and wishing they would happen.
What’s the best thing that has ever happened to you? Meeting my fiancé – I don’t know what I would do without him.
What effect did that have on your life? If you have a supportive partner you can achieve so much. He empowers me to be the best person I can be, which is a wonderful feeling.
What’s the most challenging situation that you have experienced? Compared to what so many people experience daily around the world, my troubles seem meaningless. However, one of the most challenging times for me was when I finished university. I didn’t know what I was going to do with myself or what I wanted to do long term. I realised I didn’t want to work in hotel or in tourism like my degree was geared towards and I felt directionless.
How did that affect you? I soon realised I’m not motivated by money and wasn’t happy with what I was doing. I was disappointed I hadn’t studied something else at university – although I didn’t know what that something was! I felt really frustrated and annoyed with life. Starting Live Healthy Simply has negated this feeling. I finally feel like I’m doing what I am meant to be doing with my life.
Have you been able to see the gift in that? My fiancé and I met at university; we both took the same course. So even though what we were learning isn’t directly relevant to what I am doing now, I am so grateful for enrolling for the sole reason that we met.
Do you have a sense of yourself as being more than your body and brain? Yes, I believe we have a soul or a part of us that lives on after we die. I’m not exactly sure where it goes or what it does but I believe it exists.
Do you have a feeling that there is an energy greater than you, something that might have all the answers? I believe in God, a higher power, the universe, or whatever you feel comfortable calling it. Sometimes you just have to have faith that everything happens for a reason, despite your judgement or understanding.
