HOROSCOPE HOUSE

DEAR FELLOW ADVENTURERS

FIRST UP I WANT TO SHARE with you the exciting news that we are once again Australia’s largest holistic magazine. Gradually over the past year we have been inching up to that position and now, with the addition this month of 127 new outlets, we have well and truly claimed that position again. This issue has turned out to be about

not only sound, a topic you can guess from the front cover, but on the subject of why we are here and now that we are here, what’s the right way to live. It’s a harder subject to depict on a cover. My mind reels at how this could be done. As with most of our themes, this one just emerged. I am reading all the articles and I see a thread between them and realise that Spirit has a message to plug this month. Oh, I suppose a more polite or spiritual way to put that would be to say Spirit wants to use LivingNow as a vehicle to bring something into your awareness. Sadhguru tells us in his usual

mischievous way (page 7) that there is no purpose to life other than to just live it and be happy. He points out that there is no purpose in going to a party except we just like being there. Robert Forman, one of my favourite people on the planet, takes that a step further and says that by our living ordinary lives and coming up with solutions in our relationships, money and job challenges, we learn the lessons we are here to learn. He’s the author of ‘Enlightenment ain’t what it’s cracked up to be’ and you may remember that we’ve

had an article from him previously. In this issue Marian Van Eyk McCain, another of my favourite people, reviews his book (page 9) and at the same time gives us insights to work with in our own lives. We have two enriching, good-read

reviews by Marian this issue, and the other one (page 13), of a book by Duan Elgin, addresses why we are here and where we are going. His book is another must-read and, as part of his work, he explains that “the concept of a living universe can be found at the core of the world’s main wisdom traditions”. Of course that gives us a segue into

another article where Milly Taylor writes about wonderful work being done by an Aboriginal Elder, Uncle Eugene Eades, in WA (page 12). As you probably know, at the heart of Aboriginal spirituality is the belief that we are part of the mother (as in Mother Earth) – and it seems to me that the veil that separates us from Spirit is thinner in the outback. For me, the icing on the cake in this

topic is Steve Ray’s article (page 8) – oh yes, he’s another of my faves. He urges us to not ask who is taking care of us, but to feel it in the heart and experience the difference – but it takes persistence or we will fall back into the old grooves. Creativity – something we all have

but express differently and with different degrees of aplomb. July magazine will see us with a focus on creativity of all sorts. This theme emerged too. As I was choosing articles for this issue, I

realised that I had buckets of good ones on creativity – so I put them aside until next month. If it suits your business goals to promote yourself with articles around this theme, you know where to get us. Now, speaking of Spirit having a

message to plug, so do I. We all know the difference between ringing a utility and getting someone on the end of the phone who just does their job perfunctorily and getting someone who thinks laterally and works out why a certain problem could be occurring or, if there is no problem, simply offers amazing service and feels like an old friend. Well that’s the sort of person we are looking for. We need someone to help with production of the magazine in the Melbourne office in Donvale right near Tunstall Square shopping Centre and plenty of parking and buses. Excellent computer skills, attention to detail, client contact expertise and sense of humour essential. Experience in graphics, production or prepress would be a great advantage, but if you’re quick on the uptake, intelligent and have a good memory as well, then you can pick up the necessary knowledge. Experience in client service is a plus as well. While the job is not always full time, we want a full time person, as the role can be packed out with a couple of different sorts of duties, depending on the expertise and interest of the successful applicant. Do ring first on 03 9842 1896, and then send in your CV by email.

I’d like to welcome Ms Tammy

Reid and Mr Kerry Bond to our team to sell advertising in QLD and NSW respectively, while Mrs Judy Taylor is back helping with sales too in VIC – good to have you all on board. We have a room available to rent at

Donvale for a body therapist. It is all set up with an infra-red sauna as well as massage table and a couple of other gizmos to enhance the health of your clients. You can have the room by itself if that’s your preference, but these extras are a pretty good adjunct and not readily available at other venues. We also have the other practitioner room available on Fridays only – for counselling, kinesiology, etc. Do give us a ring if you are interested – 03 9842 1896 (and apologies to the people who rang just as we were moving – I lost the list of phone numbers).

With much love,
