A couple of days later, I did go back to the Eisteddfod to see it properly. This day, the weather was fine, and I walked the correct way via Entrance 1. Had an enjoyable enough time. Got to see the crowning of the bard ceremony. This year, it was won by a woman, Hilma Lloyd Edwards, one of only a few female winners. It was also the first time the prize had been won in Cardiff for 70 odd years, because at previous Eisteddfods in Cardiff, no poem was deemed good enough to win. I have to say, the whole ceremony was a fantastic event, something we can be proud of in Wales. Unfortunately, as I don’t speak Welsh, I haven’t been able to read the poem, but if anyone knows where I can read a translation of it, perhaps online, would appreciate it. No need for my umbrella that day, thank God.

** Footnote. It should be noted that this writer doesn’t believe in Global Warming. He is slightly suspicious of the fact that last summer a record entitled “Under My Umbrella” was released by Rihanna, which you would normally think would be the worst possible record to release at the start of the summer, but did in fact then spend 8 weeks at No.1 due in part to the fact that then for the next 2 months, some of the worst flooding the country has ever seen occurred. However, this author does not put this down to Global Warming. After all, it wasn’t that hot. And he doesn’t believe in Global Warming under its conveniently new all-encompassing name of Climate Change either. He does suspect that it may in fact be possible for Governments to control weather to some extent now, but thinks this is unlikely. He thinks that one thing we should consider is that we are in fact far less in control of things than we imagine. We have no control of the most significant factor of our weather, ie. the sun, which is millions of miles away. We like to think in terms of being in complete control, and being the master of our environment, but this is a very false impression. This point, this author could expand upon. But anyway, to sum up, this author thinks Global Warming is bollocks, and thinks that, in 20 years time, instead of the planet facing environmental destruction, far more likely is that we will all be laughing when thinking back to how we all almost fell for it.
