Being an Abbotsholmian is to be part of a family, and because of this we are able to become confident, positive, respectful human beings.


I joined inYear 7 as a quiet, shy, self-conscious young lad, but it wasn’t long before I became fully involved in everything Abbotsholme had to offer. I am now a keen climber, I have trekked in Nepal to Everest base camp, and wild-camped and canoed in Sweden. I have taken part in the Devizes toWestminster Race (which at 125 miles is one of the longest canoe marathons in Europe), and in an eight-hour caving session in an old, disused slate mine. I have been part of the winning Round Square adventure race team for two consecutive years, and have also contributed to Round Square Conferences. Abbotsholme has taught me not only how to do these things but also how to succeed.


As a boarder, I have found that my houseparents have always been like parents. They have been there for me when I’ve needed someone to talk to, and supportive of everything I have done. Abbotsholme is my second home.


My goal is to become a vet and I hope I will be able to study at Nottingham UniversityVeterinary School. Under the guidance of my teachers, I am working hard to get the best academic grades I can, and I know that my years of experience on the school farm – including helping to raise calves, looking after the bought cattle, injecting sheep and delivering lambs, as well as all of the daily routine work – will prove invaluable, too.


Throughout my seven years here,Abbotsholme has trusted me, and allowed me to be myself. It has taught me to push boundaries, and to challenge myself


to aim as high as I can. This year, I have been Head


of School, a fantastic experience which has brought out the very best in me.


Although I will inevitably leave Abbotsholme, Abbotsholme will never leave me.
