his year’s festival has plenty of fun(gi) for all. Look for the
Giant Blow-up Mushroom on Depot between Third and Fourth Streets for the Mushroom Educational Exhibit. Mushroom Growers will be on hand to educate festival goers on all things related to the mushroom. People who are ordinarily not familiar with the mushroom have the opportunity to learn new recipes, educate themselves on the health ben- efits of mushrooms and view first hand how the growing process works. And don’t forget, you can purchase the freshest, just
picked, button, crimini and portabella mushrooms, straight from the local mushroom farms, as well as a variety of mushroom merchandise for sale at the festival.
MEET THE MUSHROOMS FOR SALE AT THE FESTIVAL
BUTTON (buht-n) A usually small white mushroom in which the pileus has not yet expand- ed, agaricus bisporus
CRIMINI (kruh-mee-nee) An edible, dark brown mushroom with rounded cap, Agaricus bisporus. The crimini is an immature portabel- la, picked before the gills are exposed. It is known by many names including baby portabella, baby bella, Roman mushroom, Italian mushroom and brown mushroom.
PORTABELLA (pawr-tuh-bel-uh) A mature, very large crimini mush- room, Agaricus bisporus. Portabellas are mature agaricus mushrooms where the veil has opened and the gills are exposed.
