Maryland Will Miss
Show hunter trainer Laura Palmer Pickett (52) of Mt. Airy, died on April 21 of com- plications related to cancer. Laura was the wife of Brian Pickett (ex-MFH for Goshen Hounds) and mother of Christopher and hunter/jumper rider Kori. Laura was an integral part of the Rolling Acres Show Stable in Brookeville as a trainer and an active, supportive member of the Maryland equestrian community. From Tom Pardoe, cur- rent MFH of Goshen Hounds: “For those of us privileged to know Laura, she was always a no nonsense person with a heart of pure gold. Laura was a consummate riding instruc- tor who once had the temerity to try to teach riding to three MFHs, one her father-in-law [Hardy Pickett, ex-MFH Goshen], and one this writer! She had far greater success with her regular students coaching them to many wins in very prestigious events. Laura was a fi ne lady who shared her talents far and wide as well as her just basic ‘goodness.’ No one ever doubted where Laura stood and that’s a great attribute.” James L. Brobst, Sr. of Frederick died on
