T e Maryland Saddle Association is one of the oldest horse show organizations in Mary- land, being founded in 1962. T is season marks the 50th Anniversary of the organization which off ers fi ve shows a year at the Prince George’s Equestrian Center. T is year, the organization has made a few changes to move MSA into its next 50 years. T e MHSA Rates Show will be held both


Saturday and Sunday, allowing competitors to earn double the points in one weekend worth of showing. Jumpers are also now being off ered on both days. MSA is actually lowering the pricing of some of the classes off ered and has created a new class schedule. for a grant, an ap- plicant must be a current program participant and have successfully completed at least one year within the program. T e applicant must also be a mem- ber of at least one USEF Recognized Breed/Discipline Affi liate or International Af- fi liate Association (including the USHJA). Grant winners could receive up to $1,000 to be used for academic or equestrian educational pur- suits. In addition, ten $500 grants will be awarded to local high school equestrian teams and clubs. Southern Maryland Horse Assoc. Disbands

T e Southern Maryland Horse Association was founded in 1984 with the mis- sion to promote horsemanship, good sportsman- ship and the better- ment of the eques- trian sport. T e organization host- ed several school- ing shows a year at the Prince George’s Equestrian Center. SMHA off ered a


broad range of classes for Western, English, Saddle Seat riders and even Driving. Sadly, 2011 was the last year of this show series as the organizers have decided to not off er any shows in 2012 and to disband the organization.


Rules and Regs


Points and Prize Money A few changes to the rules on how points


are awarded and prize money distributed have been made for the 2012 season. Eff ective De- cember 1, 2011, GR312 General CH3 Compe- tition Licensing now states that in the Hunter division, the Increment System will determine points for ribbons won in any rated section. T e point value for ribbons won in “A”, “B” or “C”


rated hunter sections is determined according to the Increment System utilizing a combination of the base points for each placing at each level of section rating and adding one point for each entry shown in the fi rst performance class. In the past, the point value for “B” or “C” shows was based on the number of entries shown and for “A” shows, it was based on the number of entries and the amount of prize money awarded. T e rule continues to state: In addition, in the First and Second Year Green
