ond Year Green Hunter, High Performance and Performance Working Hunter, Green Confor- mation Hunter and Regular Conformation Hunter divisions. T e rule states that for these classes, points are calculated using two systems towards two separate sets of national awards. For national Money Won Awards, calcu-

lations are based on the money won by each horse in its respective section. For national Points Awards, calculations are done using the Increment System. In addition, both money won and points won in Hunter Classics and the

International Hunter Derby will be included. Money and points won in the USHJA Inter- national Hunter Derby will only be awarded towards a declared hunter section for Horse of the Year points if a horse competes in the de- clared section a minimum of fi ve times during the competition year.

Equitation Changes Eff ective on January 23, 2012, the description of what can and cannot be asked of the rid- ers during an Equitation Division has changed.

Several riders have made the switch from hunters to jumpers, or the other way around. And some horses have done the same as well. However, when classes are becoming more and more specialized with judges looking for a specifi c type of horse, successfully mak- ing the switch and being competitive at it is more rare. But Gerona 92 and Mary Lisa Leffl er of Rolling Acres are doing just that. After a successful career in jumpers, competing up through the Grand Prix level, “Romy” was shown this winter in the hunter divisions and is already topping the list of qualifi ed horses for the $500,000 Diamond Mills Hunter Prix to be held in Saugerties, New York later this year.

Rule EQ111 Class Routine now states that ex- hibitors will be eliminated if they trot or canter through the in-gate or out-gate. Due to this rule change, rule EQ114 Test From Which Judges Must Choose also had to be changed. It now states that “equitation tests must not have exhibitors trotting or cantering through in-gate or out-gate” and also states that if they do so, they will be eliminated.

Hunter Classics T e eff ective date for the rule change to HU146.4 was changed from De- cember 1, 2012 to being imme- diately eff ective as of March 26, 2012. T is rule removes the prize money requirement for the Chil- dren’s Hunter Pony Classics and also removed the requirement for double prize money in all two- round Hunter Classics where both rounds of the Classic are held sep- arately from the division. Also, the wording for HU146 Hunter Classics has changed eff ec- tive April 1, 2012. Hunter Classics must still be conducted as a two- round class. However, a Handy Hunter round may not be used as part of the Hunter Classic.
