Natural Awakenings Los Angeles was launched last June, making this month our 12th issue, completing the first year’s cycle. It has been an exciting time with challenges and rewards. As I reflect back upon the year, I realize how grateful I am for many things.

First, I am grateful to be part of the Los Angeles holistic community. We have so many professionals who are passionate about their fields and committed to making LA a better place to live. Second, I am grateful to be working with such a talented art and editorial team, toiling behind the scenes to put out a quality publication each and every month. The regular staff includes lead editor Jeanette Watkins, layout artist Michele Rose, ad designer Helene Leininger and contributing writer Beth Davis. Third, I am grateful for you, our readers. You have embraced this publication from day one. I marveled at the take-away rate the first June issue enjoyed. When we distributed the July issue, we could not find many June copies left on the racks. Although the Natural Awakenings brand has been around for 18 years, readers in Los Angeles had never heard of it before our debut. Today’s monthly readership totals 50,000 on a circulation of 20,000. Finally and most importantly, I am grateful for our advertisers. Since Natural
Awakenings Los Angeles is a free publication, it is our advertisers who make this publication possible. They provide you with valuable information, and without them, Natural Awakenings Los Angeles would not exist. Keep them in mind when making your purchase decisions.
In last month’s Letter from Publisher, I announced that we had increased our page count from 32 to 36. Further, I stated that we would have more exciting news shortly. I am proud to announce that we are launching a new website to support the monthly print publication. It should be operational as the May print issue is distributed across the greater Los Angeles area. The new website provides immediate access to Natural Awakenings Los Angeles content, searchable by topic, date or keyword. Photos, web links, coupons, special offers, a Facebook cross-link and reference, video content, a City Guide and more are also viewable on the computer or via a smart phone. Calendar events can now be submitted online for both print and online calendars. An archived library of past Natural Awakenings Los Angeles editions provides access to more great local and national articles and interviews.
Please check out the new website at

Be well,
