DallasBalletCenterCelebrates 25Years ofArtistry inDance

hen Judy andBrentKlopfenstein boughtDallasBallet Center (DBC) fromMary and JimWilcox in 1987 they had no idea the studiowould become the ballet power-


house it is today.Over the yearsDBC, the official school for the DallasBalletCompany, has become known for producing technical- ly proficient ballet dancers and for putting on full-length ballet pro- ductions including TheNutcracker, SleepingBeauty andDonQuixote.


TheDanceCouncil asksCo-director JudyKlopfensteinwhat this milestonemeans to her andwhat the future has in store forDBC.


DanceCouncil:Towhat do youattributeDBC’s longevity?


JudyKlopfenstein: The studio has a strong foundation, an excel- lent professional staff, a fabulous officemanager and an emphasis on proper technique and discipline balancedwith family values and a nurturing environment.


DC:Whathave beensome of your favoritemoments inthe last 25 years?


Being the official school of theDallasBalletCompany and creating and performing aNutcracker for 25 years to a sold out audience has been a true highlight. Travelingwith the dancers has been another. We have had the opportunity to performtwice atAvery FisherHall at LincolnCenter inNewYork aswell as travel and performabroad inAustriawith Young Tanszommer.Other favoritemoments have been the simple daily encounterswith the studentswhether it is with their school activities and community involvement or receiv- ing phone callswhen they go off to summerworkshops or to pur- sue dance professionally. Lastly,watching our daughtersRachel, Rebecca and Jennifer growup at the studio has also brought us great joy!


DC:What’s instore for the future?


DallasBalletCompany is excited to be hosting the RegionalDance America/Southwest Festival,March 21-23, 2014.More than 750 dancers and professional teacherswill be coming toDallas to partic- ipate in this opportunity. TheEisemannCenterwill be hosting the event and therewill be two performances aswell as an emerging choreographer’s concert.Andmost recentlywe have announced the news that the JanieChristy School ofDancewill bemerging withDBCand JanieChristywill be joining our staff.DallasBallet Centerwill also continue onwith itsmission to teach, educate, inspire and instill the joy of dancing to all!
