Q. What is your favourite part of being in the NYPBoS?
Meeting lots of people from different piping backgrounds and playing alongside pipers I usually compete against.
Q. What are the other band members likely to say about you, or what are you most known f or in the band?
I’m not too sure. Maybe friendly and always up for a laugh.
Q. What is the secret of your success? There are no real secrets. I just put in hard work and ensure plenty of preparation before an event. Most importantly, I enjoy what I’m doing.
Q. What would be your ideal uniform if you were allowed to choose it for your band? I like the uniform George Watson’s College wear at the moment. However, it would be nice to escape the white socks (at least for a little while).
Q. What would you do or say to encourage other youngsters to learn the pipes? I would tell them about the fantastic opportu- nities it offers to them and all of the good friends they will make along the way.
Q. Who is your pipe idol?
Stuart Liddell because he is successful in both solo piping and band competitions.
Q. What are your interests outside of piping? I don’t have much spare time at the moment as I am studying for my Highers. I enjoy spending time with my friends and am learning to drive.
Q. What do you want to do for a career? I am not yet su-re, but it will probably be chemistry related.
Q. What other music do you like? What’s on your MP3 player?
There is quite a mix including The Fabulous Five, the new album by George Watson’s College Pipes and Drums.
Q. Who are your heroes? My heroes would have to be my parents as
Calum with the Juvenile World Pipe Band Championship trophy
Q. Do you have any superstitions or any pre-performance rituals?
I am not superstitious but I do ensure plenty of warm up time before competing.
they have supported me from day one and have made it possible for me to take advantage of all the opportunities and experiences that piping offers.
Q. Are you sporty, and do you follow any teams? I am not very sporty but I occasionally fit in a round of golf and I always support Scotland.
