Charlottes’ Cake Is Fit For A Queen

avering College student Charlotte Cook has risen to the challenge in a competition to make a cake

celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The 16-year-old has created a spectacular street party scene demonstrating her exceptional skills and knowledge of cake decoration and sugar craft.

Charlotte is entering her Jubilee party piece in a competition at the Ideal Home Exhibition currently taking place at Earls Court London.

The competition is sponsored by Kenwood and the cakes entered by amateur cooks and professional chefs will be judged by TV cook Mary Berry for the title of Ideal Cake Decorator of the Year 2012.

The teenager, from Stapleford Abbots in Essex, is passionate about baking and patisserie. She says she loves her Level 1

Hospitality and Catering course which is run at the Havering College Quarles Campus in Harold Hill where Charlotte hones her skills by helping to run the college’s Jubilee Restaurant.

Charlotte said: “I’ve made my Queen’s Diamond Jubilee cake in my own time. It’s a rectangular fruit cake and I’ve decorated it with icing to make it a traditional street party table complete with Union Jack, tablecloths, bunting, food and all the miniature plates and drinks. I’ve even made the chairs and lampposts from which the bunting hangs. It has taken me about 10 days.

“I love making cakes. It started when I was little making cup cakes. Now I just dream of having my own cake shop.”

Charlotte plans to bring her street party cake into college once judging has taken place.
