RECRUITMENT\\\

Why we need to get ourselves into Europe

Freight people, least of all, can afford to avoid the wider world – the industy is, by its very nature, an international business. As

a leading recruiter in

the industry, we at Headford appreciate that we are recruiting for global companies and our aim has always been to offer an appropriate solution for the freight industry. Headford is in the process of expanding its team across Europe and presently has a portfolio of excellent candidates and vacancies all over the Eurozone. Just as in the UK, we have

companies from all over Europe contacting us with all sorts of vacancies in the freight sector and there seems to be plenty of business – at least in some parts of Europe. Yes, there is a lot of gloom and doom in Greece and one or two of the other Eurozone countries, but don’t forget that Germany has been enjoying an export boom lately. And even some of the so-called ‘problem’ countries in the south of Europe like Italy have been exporting aggressively – which soon translates into increased business for the freight industry. Even Ireland, which many economic pundits had written

off as a basket-case, has made a strong and -in many quarters, quite unexpected – comeback. Like most of the freight and

logistics companies we work for, we have aggressive growth plans to expand into Europe and, for example, have already been hitting France, Germany and Southern Ireland, and making inroads with key clients in these countries. Although we offer our services globally and there is demand in other places like the Middle East or America too, Europe will remain our main focus for the time being. As I suggested last issue when

talking about the UK market, demand for sales-orientated people is particularly strong on the Continent and we are always looking for good people across Europe. People who are ready and willing to take the next step up the management ladder are particularly welcome. Through our network of

serviced offices we have interview facilities at most leading European towns and cities. Mostly, we are recruiting local nationals for local jobs but the sourcing is being done from the UK, and for the

same sorts of jobs that we recruit for in this country. While senior management in our industry do frequently move across international boundaries, at most levels employers are looking to recruit nationals within their own country. It’s clearly encouraging that so

many of our clients are seeking to expand abroad and our service is particularly popular among those who are looking to open new offices in Europe. We can provide a short list or key candidates in the area and arrange interview days at our serviced offices in key locations across Europe – just as we would in the UK.

UK firms are looking to expand

in Europe, but there is also brisk demand from European- based freight firms looking to expand their activities across the Continent. Naturally, demand is centred on the main sea and airports. Yes,

there are established

employment and recruitment agencies in most other European countries, but we believe that Europe can benefit greatly from our approach to recruitment, which is to offer a tailor-made service geared specifically to the needs of the freight sector. Who says this country doesn’t export anything any more?
