An undergraduate degree in Brazil, in one of the following subject areas - arts or humanities, social sciences, mathematical or natural sciences - takes four years to complete. Students wishing to pursue a degree in a ‘professional’ subject, such as architecture, engineering,
medicine or law, will be required to undertake a minimum of five years of university study. The Ministry of Education also encourages Brazilian universities to promote research, particularly at graduate (Masters and PhD) level.
There are over 2,000 programs of study available to international students. Universidade de São Paulo alone has 230 undergraduate courses on offer.
