• Nigel Le Bas, associate director with Grant Thornton in Southampton, has been seconded to the firm’s expanding international advisory team working alongside the global heads of transactions and M&A. Le Bas, who has been with the firm for more than four years in a corporate finance advisory role, will assist the team in achieving growth plans and look to strengthen its capabilities and relationships across the globe. He has worked on a number of significant regional deals, including the management buyout of Snell, and will be based in the firm’s Southampton and London offices.
• Martin Rolfe has joined NATRS as managing director operations, with responsibility for delivering NATS’ en route business, a contract worth £2.2 billion with its customers and UK regulator and which runs until the end of 2014. An aerospace engineer by background, Rolfe was formerly managing director of the UK civil business with Lockheed Martin UK. He will also be responsible for helping NATS develop and deliver services and products to help grow the business into a truly global player.
• Two former Barton Peveril students have been given the opportunity to become fully-qualified lawyers at Eric Robinson Solicitors. They are Ben Upward, who studied law at Barton Peveril before going on to Nottingham Trent University, and Clare Collins, who gained her law degree from the University of Southampton and went on to study at Guildford.
• Haskins Garden Centres has appointed Conna Powles as new buying director. She joins the head office team based at Ferndown after six years with the Hobbycraft Group, and has previously worked for Sainsbury’s and the Bournemouth-based department store group Beales. With centres at Ferndown, West End in Southampton, Snowhill near Crawley and a £12 million new build centre at Roundstone near Worthing, Powles will be enhancing and developing the product range, from the essential indoor and outdoor plant areas, through to sundries, gifts, food, drink, furniture and clothing.
• Award-winning engineering consultancy Upton McGougan has announced two key appointments at its office in Winchester. Bringing more than 16 years’ experience, most recently in the technology sector with telecommunications giant Ericsson in Southampton, Jo Macklin (above) joins the marketing department as an executive working to develop the profile of the company both on and offline. Lisa Bartlett, who completed a degree in law from Bournemouth University last November, joins as PA and will work alongside the four directors based at Partnership House, the new home of Upton McGougan’s southern operations.

• Former Rose Bowl managing director Glenn Delve has joined the team at Hampshire IT services company Taylor Made. In more than six years at the helm of the home of Hampshire Cricket, Delve oversaw ambitious £45 million expansion plans, which are now coming to fruition. He also drove the change from county ground to major international arena with Test status. A relationship built during its highly-successful IT service contract with the venue led Taylor Made to secure his services after he stepped down. Delve has been appointed as consultant to help with the strategic development of the business and his new role includes looking at contract structure and business processes.
• After 25 years as resident partner at Rothmans’ Southampton office and 40 years with the firm, Simon Elliott has retired, handing over the office to audit partner Sue Sullivan and tax specialist Peter Dawson. The new partners are taking over at an opportune time to expand Rothmans’ service offering with planned regeneration in the Oxford Street area which, it is hoped, will attract new business to the city.
• Grant Thornton has strengthened its tax team with the appointment of Trudi Amy as tax director in its Southampton office. Amy joins from Smith & Williamson in Southampton where she was head of tax. Her areas of specialism include advising professional practices and clients in the not-for-profit sector. She also has extensive experience in advising privately owned and managed businesses across a wide range of industries, and rapidly growing companies looking for an exit.
• Accountants and business adviser BDO has appointed Greg Rubins as partner and head of its public sector audit practice. Rubins, based in the Southampton office, will lead a team across the firm’s central and regional networks, providing audit advisory services and tailored offerings to public sector clients. He has more than 25 years’ experience, having trained at the National Audit Office, and joins from PwC where he was head of the south coast public sector team for eight years.
