What are your three favourite films? “That’s a difficult one! It depends so much on my mood. But a first stab could include: In The Mood for Love, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead and The Gods Must Be Crazy.”
Who is your favourite singer? “Gosh, there are so many who have great voices! Sammy Davis, Jr, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Neil Youg, China Forbes, Sarah McLachlan, Gil Scott-Heron…how do I narrow it down?”
What is your favourite possession? “My unwavering optimism and happy-go-lucky attitude to life.”
What is your favourite scent? “That depends on my mood! At the moment, I am loving our Tobacco & Jasmine fragrance, which we developed for Barneys in New York. It reminds me of sitting in the reading room of my friend’s estate, with the windows thrown open to a spring day.”
Who are your favourite actors? “Vincent Cassel is an interesting character. I also Like Kirsten Scott Thomas.”
Which five guests – living or dead – would you invite to a dinner party? “Buddha (or Jesus) – just to lay to rest the age old debate; Coco Chanel – someone has to bring glamour and wit; Jacques Cousteau – to regale us with stories of his drive to explore the depths of the ocean and his need to educate us to preserve our natural world; Nelson Mandela or Aung San Suu Kyi, to inspire us to never give up hope; and Francois Vatel – to put on a feast to remember.”
What’s the best thing about being a designer? “It’s like being given a license to play. Every day is fun and different!”
Do you
believe in a god?
“It’s why I’d invite Jesus or
Buddha to dinner. So I can
satisfy my curiosity
one way or the
other.”
