John Emmerson is listed in the 1666 hearth tax returns for Hartburn, a present-day suburb of Stockton-on-Tees. The full reading of the token is mm. rosette, OF HARTBVRNE ···, I·E·H, rev. mm. 5-point mullet, IN DVRHAM : 1667, stemmed rose. The crude style is reminiscent of other known later copies, principally of tokens from the East Midlands and Yorkshire.
