17TH CENTURY TOKENS ASSOCIATED WITH SAMUEL PEPYS

17TH CENTURY TOKENS ASSOCIATED WITH SAMUEL PEPYS

From the Collection of George Berry The tokens in the following 22 lots are all of

establishments frequented and known to the diarist Samuel Pepys (1633-1703). The detailed private diary Pepys kept from 1660 until 1669, which was first

published in the 19th century, is one of the most important primary sources for the English Restoration period. The tokens, and the background to their issuers, are described in greater detail in the vendor’s Taverns and Tokens of Pepys’ London (Seaby, 1978).
