SCOTTISH TOKENS FROM THE COLLECTION OF NEIL BEATON
SCOTTISH TOKENS FROM THE COLLECTION OF NEIL BEATON
This portion of the Beaton collection of Scottish tokens, 736 pieces in total, is the most significant grouping of its type to appear at auction since the Brodie sale almost 10 years ago. Although this offering lacks some of the more charismatic and specious pieces associated with the late 18th century series, it does include a number of difficult- to-locate items among the less glamorous farthings of the city traders in Edinburgh and Glasgow issued between 1780 and 1830. For the Scottish token specialist generally, this represents a significant opportunity.
