Civil War Journals is the third in it's Civil War BOM quilt series. Each quilt focuses on a different aspect of the war, and with Journals, our attention turns to the children of the 1860s. Like the previous Civil War BOM collections, Journals is designed by Judie Rothermel.During the first two months of each quar- ter, you will make the blocks. During the third month you will decided whether to set the blocks aside toward creating the single queen bed quilt (84"x102') or to complete one of the four smaller quilts.
This exciting Block of the Month includes fabric by Paula Barnes of Bonnie Blue Quits. To accompany the fabrics, Mary Ellen Robinson and Paula Barnes, owners of Bonnie Blue Quilts have designed a sam- pler style BOM featuring 5 inch blocks.
The collection was created around an antique border print from the mid 1800’s , along with antique coor- dinates in varying shades of red and brown. For the quilt’s 45 blocks, Barnes selected small, closely spaced motifs, noting that their scale would lend themselves to the 5 inch size, while shirtings were added to provide lights.
Blocks are created during Months 1-11 and are carefully grouped by technique or similarity in style. The quilt is completed in month 12. A fabric kit will be available monthly for purchase.
