Drum managed to avoid a collision with the vehicle but the maneuver left his motor- cycle uncontrollable and he was thrown from the toppling bike. The bike and Sgt. average of 163 officers are killed every year. Addition- ally, this effort is designed to seek monetary support for the non-profit organiza- tion Concerns Of Police Sur- vivors. C.O.P.S. is dedicated to the healing process of the families of fallen officers. This support is displayed in many ways. In the fiscal year 2010 C.O.P.S. spent over $2 Million on programs aimed di- rectly at the children of those who were killed in the line of duty.

2011 saw an increase in violence towards officers across America; the end result was 173 officers killed in the line of duty and that is just in 2011. These officers have left a total of 265 chil- dren behind, some too young to have a memory of their fallen parent. On May 21st

2011 Trooper Shaft Hunter of the Maryland State Police was pursuing a fleeing mo- torcycle when he lost control of his patrol car. The col- lision was fatal and he not only leaves a grieving wife behind but six children as well. On May 28th
