A Classic Experience
A Saga cruise evokes the golden age of cruising where fine food, wonderful company and superior service are all part of the tradition
S
aga specialises in small ship cruising rather than the anonymity of a mega-liner, and Saga Sapphire and Saga Ruby have been designed to give you a ‘classic’ cruise experience which begins the moment you board. Crew and passengers soon know your name – and your favourite drink and preferred spot to dine. Both Sapphire and Ruby sail from Dover or Southampton, so there’s no need to worry about the hassle of airports (plus, you can take as much luggage as you like on board).
The ships sail to classic destinations such as the Mediterranean and the Baltic as well as to some less-explored destinations, such as Iceland and Morocco and as far north as the Arctic Circle to see the midnight sun.

Days on board
can be as active or lazy as you wish
Bygone elegance From bow to stern, Ruby exudes class and captures the romance of a bygone era of cruising. The last cruise ship to be built in Britain, her elegant profile is reflected in the décor and design, from opulent dining rooms to beautifully appointed cabins. The ship’s showpiece Ballroom puts on varied performances, from live music and dancing to theatre and comedy, while the cinema shows both classic films and new releases. Saga Ruby maintains the classic tradition of fixed seating for dinner in the grand dining room, so you’ll have the same seats reserved for you and the same table companions. When the weather is fine you can dine alfresco for a special treat or in the cosy View restaurant, which seats just 28 guests (booked onboard).
Days on board can be as active or lazy as you
wish – Ruby features everything from yoga to golf (on a simulator). Or you could challenge someone to a game of table tennis, deck quoits, shuffleboard, or get active in the fully equipped gym. Alternatively, if you want to keep in touch with friends and family back home there is an internet café; you may choose to play cards with other guests, pick up a book or a DVD from the library, or indulge in a treatment at the spa.
A gem of a ship Saga Sapphire is Saga’s latest ship and sets sail on her inaugural cruise on 26 March, 2012. She is currently undergoing a multi million pound refurbishment. Radically different from any previous Saga ships, Sapphire will redefine small ship cruising, with six restaurants and bars, two pool areas and a number of unique entertainment venues. A key part of the refurbishment has been the cabins, which will have contemporary furniture, a stylish colour palette, flat-screen TVs and refitted bathrooms. ››To find out more about Saga Sapphire’s refit please turn over; for details of her inaugural cruise calendar, please turn to page 11.
