SEA COTTAGES C
A new holiday home for RAF families has opened in Rustington, West Sussex. Shencot House has been refurbished by the RAF Benevolent Fund as a place for serving RAF families in need of an affordable break.
ontroller of the RAF Benevolent Fund, Air Marshal Sir Robert Wright said: “These are challenging
times for the Air Force, and we have seen a large increase in demand for the welfare breaks we offer. I’m glad to say that with Shencot House we should be able to do much more.
“This excellent new holiday home offers first class comfort, facilities and convenience for serving RAF personnel and their families. It builds on the enormous success of Seacot House, our existing holiday home (together known as the Sea Cottages), enhancing our ability to offer support at periods of peak demand.
Anyone serving in the Royal Air Force will be able to apply for a break at Shencot House, which is a short walk to the beach with easy access to West Sussex attractions like Arundel Castle and Brighton’s vibrant arts scene. The first guests, an RAF family, were welcomed in December and stayed over Christmas.
Shirley Steeples, General Manager of the house said: “I would like to thank all the people who have contributed so much to
help us complete Shencot House in good time, both financially and practically. Among them members of the local community, local businesses and corporate supporters and serving RAF personnel. Shencot House will make a big difference to hard-pressed RAF families, and also help cement the special relationship the Littlehampton area has developed with the Air Force.”
Seacot House
Seacot House is a spacious three bedroom house fitted with the most modern facilities, including a large flat screen TV with DVD player and satellite channels and broadband internet access. It has a well-equipped kitchen and a beautifully furnished dining room. There are plenty of toys if you have children, games in the cupboards, and an immaculate private garden.
Shencot House
Shencot House is a spacious and comfortable four bedroom holiday home. It’s a quiet and private house with great facilities including flat screen TV, internet access, X-box and Wii. There are three bedrooms on the
wheelchair friendly ground floor, as well as an open plan kitchen that is fully kitted out. The Airfix children’s bedroom is decorated in a Red Arrows theme, and has bunk beds. In the loft there is a fourth bedroom and a fantastic playroom, fully equipped with toys and games for all ages. Shencot House has a large garden with a patio, a games lawn and a children’s play area.
Both the cottages are adjacent to Princess Marina House, a short-term care home that also belongs to the RAF Benevolent Fund. This means assistance with any problems is close at hand – we can even bring you meals if you want a break from cooking! But unless you ask, we’ll leave you completely in peace.
